ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a 17-member national squad for the tri-nation T20 series and the Asia Cup.
Head coach Mike Hesson and chief selector Aqib Javed officially announced the team during a press conference in Lahore on Sunday.
Importantly, both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are not part of the squad.
The team has been led this time by all-rounder Salman Agha, who will lead the national team in a major tournament for the first time.
The selected players include Salman Ali Agha (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hassan Ali, Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris (wicketkeeper), Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr., Sahibzada Faran, Saim Ayub, Salman Mirza, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Safyan Muqim.
According to the selection committee, the squad consists of a mix of young and senior players to bring the team to the field with new energy.
This announcement is also surprising for cricket fans because after many years, big names like Babar Azam and Rizwan will not be part of the team in any major event.
