PCB confirms removing Wahab Riaz from selection committee

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the removal of Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz from the national selection committee setup on Wednesday after media reports emerged.

In a statement, PCB notified that the services of former cricketers Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz will no longer be required in the national selection committee’s for men and women’s national teams.

Abdul Razzaq was a member of the men’s and women’s selection committees, while Wahab was a member of the men’s selection committee. “The PCB will provide further updates on the selection committee’s composition in due course,” the statement reads.

Earlier, reports emerged that following a disappointing performance of the national team during the T20 World Cup 2024, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi decided to sack Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from PCB’s selection committee.

According to the details, Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, and Bilal Asif are still part of the seven-member selection panel which also includes the national team captain and head coach.

During T20 World Cup 2024, PCB chief Naqvi hinted at a “major surgery” over the team’s poor show and has been holding consultations with various stakeholders about key decisions for Pakistan cricket.
