ISLAMABAD: Police teams exchanged fire with members of dacoit gangs in the areas of Sabzi Mandi and Noon Police Stations, during which 2 suspects in custody were injured by the fire of their own associates, According to the Islamabad Police Spokesperson
Police teams from Sabzi Mandi and Noon Police Stations were taking the arrested suspects to arrest more accomplices when armed men hiding on the way suddenly opened indiscriminate fire on the police teams in an attempt to rescue their associates.
The police said that the raiding teams were safe thanks to bulletproof jackets and other security measures; however, the arrested suspects were injured by the fire of their own associates during the exchange of fire. An Afghan citizen named Suleman is also among the injured suspects.
The injured suspects have been immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. According to the police, the suspects were wanted for robbery, banditry and other serious crimes.
A search operation is underway in the area following the incident to arrest the fleeing accomplices.
