Wahab Riaz appointed supervisor & mentor for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Wahab Riaz Pakistan women’s national team

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday announced the appointment of former Test cricketer and former senior manager Wahab Riaz as a supervisor for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. Riaz has also been selected to lead the mentoring team for the Champions Cup.

Meanwhile, the PCB is yet to take a final decision on the resignation of Mohammad Yousuf, who was serving as batting coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Yousuf’s future with the board is uncertain, with talks ongoing regarding his possible departure.

The move comes after Wahab Riaz was removed from the post of chief selector by Pakistan’s cricket selection committee on 11 July 2024. The decision came after Pakistan’s poor performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where the team failed to advance beyond the group stage. Riaz was initially appointed as the chief selector with a view to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Wahab Riaz retired from international cricket on August 16, 2023, ending a career that spanned more than a decade. He made his international debut against Zimbabwe in February 2008 and represented Pakistan in 27 Test matches, 91 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 36 T20 Internationals. During his career, he took 83 wickets in Test matches, 120 in ODIs, and 34 in T20Is.
