ISLAMABAD: In an unprecedented development, Jawwad Rehman, the founding Country Manager of Microsoft Pakistan, has said that Microsoft is reportedly closing its operations in Pakistan.
In a post on LinkedIn, Rehman said that the employees at Microsoft Pakistan were formally informed of the closure, signaling an end to a journey that began in June 2000.
“End of an Era… Microsoft Pakistan,” he wrote, announcing that the technology conglomerate has ended its operations in Pakistan.
Recalling his services to facilitate the company’s operations in Pakistan, Jawwad said he spent “seven years building Microsoft’s presence, assembling a talented team, serving customers, and working hand-in-hand with amazing partners.”
Highlighting the reason for the company’s exit, he mentioned the country’s current business environment, which made global giants like Microsoft operate. “It also reflects on what was done (or not done) with the strong foundation we left behind by the subsequent team and regional management of Microsoft,” he wrote.
Microsoft’s latest end to operations in Pakistan is part of its massive worldwide layoff.
Earlier, Microsoft confirmed that it’s laying off as many as 9,100 employees, or about 4 percent of its workforce, in yet another round of cuts this year in June, as part of a broad restructuring.
