PTA extends deadline for VPN registration

PTA extends deadline for VPN registration

ISLAMABAD: In a recent development, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced to extend Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) registration deadline by two more weeks.

The decision was made during a review meeting following the Interior Ministry’s directive to block unregistered VPNs, PTA sources revealed.

According to sources, the deadline for VPN registration has been set for November 30, after which PTA will launch an official crackdown against unregistered VPNs which will begin on December 1.

A successful trial of VPN blocking has already been conducted and so far more than 20,000 companies and freelancers have successfully registered their VPNs.

Earlier, PTA launched a new portal for VPN registrations which has been divided into four distinct categories to facilitate the business and communities in the registration process. Freelancers will also be facilitated by a hassle-free registration process.

For those who have yet to register, they need to fill out an online form that requires personal information such as the CNIC, company registration details, and taxpayer status.

Freelancers will also need to provide proof of their affiliation with a project or company, such as a letter or email. The approval process for this registration is completed within 8 to 10 hours, according to PTA.
