PMD issues heatwave alert across country

Met Dept forecasts hot and dry weather across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has urged the citizens to exercise care as the Sun continues to climb and issued an alert for extremely hot and dry weather conditions throughout much of the country on Wednesday.

In numerous regions, daily temperatures are predicted to surge between 45 and 50°C, especially during the warmest hours of the day, which are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Over the next several days, the intense heat is probably going to continue, and big cities shouldn’t expect any notable rains, according to the advisory.

While majority of Punjab, including Lahore, is expected to have similar weather patterns, Islamabad and the neighboring areas will continue to be gripped by extreme heat and dryness.

In Punjab’s plains, strong, dusty winds are predicted during the afternoon, which might make the already scorching weather worse.

Most districts in Sindh and Balochistan are expected to experience extremely high temperatures, especially in the plains of Balochistan where high temperatures are predicted to persist.

The plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will also be scorching. However, the higher regions of the province, such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, and surrounding areas, are expected to have modest rainfall, according to the Met Department.

The region’s general weather is expected to stay hot and dry despite the rains. No major change from the heat is anticipated in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, where similar weather is anticipated.
