ISLAMABAD: US President Donald Trump is likely to visit Pakistan to finalize a peace deal with Iran, claimed Sajid Tarar, an analyst of Pakistan-US relations and South Asian geopolitics, on Tuesday.
The claim comes amid reports that the two sides may engage in a second round of talks after the first meeting in Islamabad ended without an agreement.
According to Reuters and the Associated Press, the two countries are maintaining communication. US officials have indicated that a follow-up round of talks could take place by Thursday.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance indicated that significant progress has been made in talks with Iran. In an interview with Fox News, he said that the ball is now in Iran’s court.
Meanwhile, Sajid Tarar wrote on X: “There is talk everywhere in Washington DC that President Trump is going to Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the Iranian delegation to finalize the Islamabad deal.”
He posted this tweet in response to a post by Indian-origin Swedish academic Ashok Sovin, which said: “Pakistan is soon to host the second round of Islamabad talks between Iran and the US. This will give the Indian media another round of heartache.”
The US and Iranian delegations were engaged in 21-hour-long talks in Islamabad over the weekend. A source told international media that at one point there was strong hope that the two sides would reach an agreement. However, things changed in no time.
