RAWALPINDI: The Metro Bust Authority has closed three metro stations due to the ongoing sit-in protest of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) at Liaquat Bagh Chowk in Rawalpindi, here on Monday.
As per the details, the Metro Bus Authority has closed three important metro stations Marir Chowk, Liaquat Bagh, and Waris Khan for the past nine days. Due to this closure, the passengers have suffered a lot.
Commuters from Marir Chowk are now forced to board at the Saddar stop, which was particularly difficult for female students.
Those normally boarding at Liaquat Bagh Chowk will now have to alight at Committee Chowk or Saddar, while Waris Khan passengers are redirected to Chandni Chowk, causing major disruptions on these routes.
This closure has also reduced the number of passengers in the Metrobus, resulting in a financial loss to the Metrobus Authority.
A spokesman for the authority said the closures were a necessary response to the sit-in and would continue as long as the protests continued.
Commuters expressed their concerns, saying that since other transport services are running as normal alongside the protests, Metro stops should not be closed completely. They suggest that one side of these stops be reopened with tighter security measures.
