ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has decided a crack down against sugar hoarders and speculators, according to media reports.
To control the artificial hike in the prices of Sugar, PM Shehbaz Sharif has given the green signal to the relevant authorities to go hard against them as per the details.
The FIA, the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the State Bank of Pakistan, and others have been granted full authority to act.
The Prime Minister has directed to start of quick action against those involved in hoarding, artificial price manipulation, and cartelization.
Authorities have already planned operations, and large-scale and swift enforcement actions are expected in the coming days.
Earlier, despite government efforts to control sugar prices, the cost of sugar in Pakistan continues to skyrocket, reaching as high as Rs. 180 per kilogram.
This surge comes just two days after the Deputy Prime Minister announced a fixed retail price of Rs. 164 per kilogram, highlighting the government’s struggle to regulate sugar prices.
