Missing child’s body found from apartment’s water tank in Karachi

Missing child body Karachi

KARACHI: The body of seven-year-old Mohammad Sarim, missing for 11 days, has been found in the underground water tank of his apartment building in North Karachi.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said that the body of Sarim has been sent for postmortem to Abbasi Shaheed  Hospital, adding that it appears that the incident occurred accidentally.

According to the FIR, lodged under section 364-A  of the Pakistan Panel Code, Sarim went missing on January 7 from North Karachi Sector 5 within the limits of the Bilal Colony police station.

The victim’s parents claimed to have received a message from an international number demanding a ransom of Rs 500,000.

However, SSP Investigation Central Kunwar Asif said that the message concerned was a fake one which the parents had mistakenly interpreted.

He said that a search was carried out of the building’s four water tanks previously. “The body may have submerged in water at that time.”

The local people said that apparently no evidence was found regarding abuse with the child and he was recovered from the water tank in the same condition as he was wearing.
