NADRA issues public advisory to warn against CNIC dangers

Govt announces new rule for illegal Pakistanis

ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) recently released a significant public advisory to warn citizens about serious dangers related to their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).

To protect peoples data, NADRA stated that there is no reason for citizens to make photocopies of their CNICs when getting services, and asked citizens to provide original documents.

In its response to citizens, NADRA expressed concerns about the increased risk of identity theft, whereby impostors claiming to be officials lure victims into passing on their personal information.

These scams involve promises of financial gain, prizes, or incentives that ultimately prompt individuals to divulge their identifiers, including fingerprints, which may have dire consequences.

Exercising Caution Citizens should be observant, especially at NADRA centres where these events have taken place, and should be warned about all of this. Individuals must never allow their CNIC to be held as some form of collateral to receive service or claim a prize. If individuals exercise caution, they will be far less likely to be a victims of identity theft.

Discouraging unnecessary photocopying of CNICs is NADRAs effort to protect citizens’ data. By implementing this action, individuals can protect their sensitive information and reduce the chances of identity theft.
