NEW YORK: A farewell reception was hosted by Pakistan’s Mission to the United Nations on Saturday to bid farewell to the country’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Munir Akram, a “distinguished figure in multilateral diplomacy”, who will relinquish the post at the end of this month.

Permanent Representative to the UN designate Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, the Consul General in New York Aamir Ahmed Atozai, Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Usman Jadoon, officers of the mission and their families, staff members, and Akram’s wife attended the event.

In his remarks, Ambassador Ahmad paid glowing tribute to his predecessor, acknowledging his decades of “outstanding service” to Pakistan.

He called Ambassador Akram a “successful multilateral diplomat, a mentor, and a brilliant strategist, one who has served Pakistan with great distinction and unwavering dedication,”

Ambassador Ahmad also said that Ambassador Akram’s remarkable legacy in public service would continue to inspire generations of Pakistani diplomats.

Akram described his journey as “long and challenging, yet deeply rewarding.” He emphasized how important the Pakistan Foreign Service is to defending the nation’s interests in a world that is becoming more complicated by the day.

Addressing the officers, he shared insights on enhancing their professional capacity to effectively navigate emerging challenges.

A video package that included statements from ambassadors of other missions and Pakistan Mission personnel highlighted Ambassador Akram’s efforts and influence on Pakistan’s diplomatic community.
