CHAK JHUMRA: A terrible incident occurred in the Nalawala area of Chak Jhumra, where the burnt body of a 42-year-old drug addict, Tahir Shafiq, was found abandoned.
The police took charge of the body and launched into further investigations, which revealed that Tahir used to live in a shop nearby. As per SHO Chak Jhumra police station, Mian Arsalan Bari had stated that Tahir was addicted to drugs and had burnt wood to keep himself warm, which unfortunately made him catch fire and resulted in his death.
His brother-in-law, Hanif Bashir, has provided a written assurance that he will not be filing any legal action.
In an other incident, a rickshaw driver was stabbed in the neck by unknown assailants, putting an end to another life in an incident that continues to remind many of what they go through every day. Such senseless acts of violence are told and retold, and are proof that horrible encounters in this country take many forms.
Likely, both these incidents will be investigated by the police and the perpetrators will be brought to justice. At this difficult hour, the community needs to come forward wholeheartedly to support the family of the victims while the authorities must address the underlying issues, especially drug addiction and violence, culminating in violence, thus sharing the burden for a more peaceful and humanitarian society.
