Punjab govt lifts ban on wheat transportation

Govt announces diesel subsidy for Wheat farmers

LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced a significant policy shift in the wheat sector, allowing the free movement of wheat within and outside the province.

This decision, approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, removes all restrictions on wheat transportation across inter-provincial borders, eliminating the need for special permits.

The move aims to benefit farmers by enabling them to sell their produce at competitive market rates, ensuring they receive the full value of their crop.

As part of this new policy, Punjab has introduced a deregulation and free market approach for wheat procurement, marking a historic shift by involving the private sector in the buying process.

This departure from the traditional government-agency monopoly is expected to promote competition, efficient resource allocation, and fair prices for farmers, ultimately benefiting both farmers and consumers.
