ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that the Shawwal moon is unlikely to be sighted on the 29th of Ramadan this year, indicating that Muslims across the country are expected to complete 30 fasts.
According to the Met Office, the new moon will be born at 6:23 am on March 19, its age at sunset will be only around 12 to 13 hours, which is considered insufficient for visibility.
Therefore, there are very slim chances of sighting the crescent on the evening of March 19 (29 Ramadan).
Based on the astronomical calculations, Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to fall on Saturday, March 21, though the final announcement will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
The PMD clarified that while scientific data helps in forecasting, the official decision regarding moon sighting and Eid date rests with the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
