Truck-coach accident leaves 10 dead, 8 injured on Indus Highway

Four people died as Truck crushed car in Lasbela

KARAK:  At least 10 people were killed and 8  injured in a tragic traffic collision between a passenger vehicle and a trailer near Methakhel on the Indus Highway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak region on Tuesday, according to rescue and police officials.

The crash happened when a vehicle carrying passengers collided head-on with a trailer at Lucky Ghandaki, a steep portion of the Indus Highway infamous for numerous accidents owing to tight curves and high-speed traffic. The victims’ names have not been identified yet, but initial indications suggest that the driver may have lost control while attempting to overtake, said the police officials.

Ten passengers died on the spot, while at least eight were injured. The injured were sent to the district headquarters hospital, where an emergency was declared shortly after the accident, rescue officials reported.

Several injured were reportedly in severe condition, and rescue workers were working to free passengers trapped within the wreckage. Authorities worried the death toll would increase.

Earlier, at least one person died and 25 people were injured when a passenger van transporting pilgrims to the Shah Noorani Shrine collided with another vehicle near Hub.

The terrible incident occurred as the bus was en route to the shrine and encountered an accident at Weirab Naddi.

Rescue workers hurried to the accident scene to quickly take the injured to local hospitals for prompt medical care.
