Young Doctors Associations announces closure of OPDs in Lahore

Punjab young doctors end strike

LAHORE: Young doctors in Punjab have declared the closure of all outpatient clinics (OPDs) across the province on Saturday, according to media reports

OPDs at Lahore’s Children’s Hospital and General Hospital have ceased operations, but other government facilities in the city continue to do so, according to reports.

Hospitals like Jinnah, Mayo, and Services Hospital are still active. The decision came after police dispersed Grand Health Alliance demonstrators yesterday.

Earlier, the police used water cannons to disperse the protesting young doctors on Mall Road, causing two of them, including the president of the Young Physicians Association Punjab, to faint.

When public hospital staff, led by YDA Punjab President Dr Shoaib Niazi, went from Charing Cross to the CM Secretariat, the atmosphere became intense, and a scuffle broke out between police and young doctors.

On Thursday, the YDA declared that it will relocate from Charing Cross to hold a sit-in outside the CM Secretariat to escalate its protest against hospital outsourcing.

Following the news, a huge group of personnel, including young physicians, nurses, and paramedics, assembled after Friday prayers and marched to the CM Secretariat.
