LAHORE: Following a hiatus of years, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has finally elected its new president after the presidential elections on Tuesday in Lahore.
Former development officer of FIFA, Mohsin Gilani, was elected as the president after securing a narrow win over rival Taha Alizai in the second round of voting.
Gilani, who became the 17th elected president, secured a simple majority by getting 13 votes, while Alizai of Karachi United Football Club followed closely with 11.
In the first round, neither candidate was able to secure the two-thirds majority (16 votes) required to win outright, which led to a second round, where a simple majority of 13 votes was required.
Mohsin Gilani’s victory ended the 6 years of governance-related crisis in Pakistan football. Duirnbg this time period, the federation was governed by FIFA-appointed Normalisation Committees.
