30,000 Facebook accounts hacked in new cyber scam

ISLAMABAD: A new scheme has emerged on the Internet and it has been revealed that 30,000 Facebook accounts have been hacked.

Cybercriminals are active all over the world and one or the other fraud keeps coming to light on the Internet every day. One such new fraud campaign has emerged, in which it has been revealed that Facebook accounts are being hacked through fake emails.

According to foreign media, this new cyber campaign has emerged from Vietnam, where Facebook accounts are being hacked through fake emails using Google App Sheet as a ‘phishing relay’.

Security company Guardio has named this campaign ‘account dumping’. Under this fraud, stolen Facebook accounts are resold through an illegal online shop, which is managed by the same hackers.

It is estimated that about 30,000 Facebook accounts have been hacked in this campaign.

According to security researcher Shaked Chen, this was no ordinary phishing tool, but a full-fledged, dynamic operation that included live control panels, advanced prevention methods, constant updates, and an organized criminal system that exploited the same accounts it stole.

The revelation proves that hackers affiliated with Vietnam are constantly adopting new methods to gain unauthorized access to people’s Facebook accounts and then make money by selling them on the black market.
