ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched Pakistan’s first ever “dematerialized digital identity card” at the event of its silver jubilee.
The ceremony was held at NADRA headquarters, it was attended by dignitaries including Major General (Retd.) Zahid Ehsan, founding chairman of NADRA, and Lieutenant General (Retd.) Asif Munir, Chairman of NADRA.
Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, appreciated this initiative for its capability to provide secure and instant verification for different services through the World Bank-backed Digital Economy Project.
Digital verification is set to kick off its pilot phase on Independence Day 2025 and will allow the public more convenient access to government services.
NADRA’s commitment to expanding identity services to remote areas and overseas Pakistanis was also emphasized, as well as its role in supporting law enforcement agencies in national security matters.
How to Download a Digital Identity Card
This new facility has been incorporated into the Pak ID mobile app by NADRA. It enables citizens to store their identity cards on their smartphones.
