More cities get free Wi-Fi in Punjab: Details inside

Punjab CM Maryam announced free WIFI to 22 Cities

LAHORE: Punjab’s free Wi-Fi initiative has seen significant expansion, with the service now available at more than 230 locations across multiple cities.

As per the details, this development is in line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif‘s vision of a more integrated province.

The Safe City Project has led this expansion by implementing free Wi-Fi access points in several urban centers. Lahore is first with 200 points, Sheikhupura with 15 points, Kasur with 10 and Nankana Sahib with 5 points is third.

A spokesperson for the initiative revealed impressive usage statistics for the last quarter. With approximately 7.7 million users using 111 terabytes of data, the service maintained a 98.7 percent availability rate.

Free internet access is reportedly having a positive impact on various sectors including education, business and social interaction. Officials see this as an important step towards transforming Punjab into a digital province.

“Citizens are finding their daily lives easier with this free Wi-Fi service,” the spokesperson noted, emphasizing the practical benefits of the initiative for residents across the region.

This expansion of free Wi-Fi coverage represents an important milestone in the development of Punjab’s digital infrastructure, potentially serving as a model for similar projects in other parts of Pakistan.
